Exemplar Logic's LeonardoSpectrum Synthesis Tool Enhances IP Integration with Altera's Quartus II Development Software

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2001-- Exemplar Logic, a Mentor Graphics company (Nasdaq:MENT) and Altera Corporation (Nasdaq:ALTR), today announced that the newest version of Exemplar's LeonardoSpectrum synthesis tool, LS 2001.1, has been integrated with Altera's new Quartus(TM) II development software environment. LS 2001.1 is also integrated with Altera's MegaWizard® Plug-In manager to support design flows with encrypted intellectual property (IP) and reduce design time by providing a push-button methodology for Altera users to easily integrate various IP cores in their designs.

In addition to supporting the encrypted design flow with the MegaWizard Plug-In manager, LS 2001.1 also supports the new encrypted design flow for Altera's Nios(TM) soft core processor, which is part of Altera's Excalibur(TM) embedded processor solutions for system-on-a-programmable-chip (SOPC) designs. Along with the expanded support for ARM(TM) and MIPS(TM) hard cores (see related release), LS 2001.1 is the first PLD synthesis solution for Altera's entire Excalibur processor family.

``Altera's technology advancements have been key to making PLDs one of the fastest growing segments of the semiconductor industry,'' said Alex Gargarita, director of marketing for LeonardoSpectrum at Exemplar Logic. ``By integrating with Altera's MegaWizard Plug-In manager and the Excalibur embedded processor solutions to support encrypted IP design flows, this new version of LeonardoSpectrum provides programmable logic designers with the tools they need to create SOPC solutions with high quality of results (QoR).''

``Altera's new Quartus II development software focuses on delivering high system performance and enabling embedded processor integration for developing complete SOPC solutions,'' added David Greenfield, director of tools marketing of Altera Corporation. ``The seamless integration and high QoR provided by LeonardoSpectrum in the encrypted IP flow fulfills customer requirements for ease of working with IP along with rapid SOPC development.''

Pricing and Availability

The LeonardoSpectrum Altera edition synthesis tool will be fully integrated into Altera's Quartus II development system creating a complete high-level design environment. The Exemplar Logic tool will be available in February 2001 with all new subscriptions and will be sent as an upgrade shipment to all existing customers on active subscription. At $2,000 for a single-user, PC license, an annual subscription entitles a customer to receive the latest version of Altera's Quartus II and MAX+PLUS® II development tools, as well as all software updates for twelve months. New or existing customers may obtain a software subscription at the eStore on the Altera web site, http://www.altera.com or from Altera's worldwide distribution channel.

The LeonardoSpectrum synthesis tool combines push-button ease-of-use with powerful control and optimization features normally associated with workstation-based ASIC tools. Exemplar's LeonardoSpectrum tool provided in the Altera suite is fully compatible with all of Mentor's full-featured FPGA design tools, providing an easy upgrade path to FPGA Advantage(TM), the industry's first complete HDL-based design flow for the PLD market.
